UbiQuest: A P2P-based Resource Discovery System for Ubiquitous Computing*
نویسندگان
چکیده
Users in ubiquitous computing environments need to find and utilize ambient resources (ubiquitous services or devices which provide ubiquitous services). In ubiquitous computing, users and resources are highly mobile, and furthermore, the attributes of ubiquitous resources may change dynamically; the static/centralized resource management systems such as conventional DNS are inappropriate for ubiquitous computing. The new resource discovery system should be independent of specific protocols, service providers and types of devices, and should be capable of finding resources only by using the attribute information of the wanted resource. This paper presents a novel resource discovery system, UbiQuest. UbiQuest has a simple and flexible architecture and provides a general-purpose/semantic-free resource discovery service. To support distributed resource management and discovery, UbiQuest adopts a DHT-based overlay network architecture. Despite the inherent rigidness of DHT, UbiQuest supports range queries and flexible search by using logical operators as well as the discovery of dynamically changing resources. The performance of the UbiQuest system is evaluated by simulation experiments, which reveal that UbiQuest can handle dynamically changing resources more efficiently.

Weighted-HR: An Improved Hierarchical Grid Resource Discovery
Grid computing environments include heterogeneous resources shared by a large number of computers to handle the data and process intensive applications. In these environments, the required resources must be accessible for Grid applications on demand, which makes the resource discovery as a critical service. In recent years, various techniques are proposed to index and discover the Grid resource...
متن کاملAn Improved Resource Discovery Approach Using P2P Model for Condor: A Grid Middleware
Resource Discovery in Grids is critical for efficient resource allocation and management. Heterogeneous nature and dynamic availability of resources make resource discovery a challenging task. As numbers of nodes are increasing from tens to thousands, scalability is essentially desired. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) techniques, on the other hand, provide effective implementation of scalable services and a...
متن کاملA Novel P2P Based Grid Resource Discovery Model
Resource discovery is a fundamental problem in grid systems. Original approaches to provide grid resource discovery services are either centralized or hierarchical and proved to be inefficient when the scale of grid systems rapidly increases. A P2P network is a distributed system with the attributes of dynamicity and scalability. P2P systems have the same goal as grid systems: to share and exch...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of a Hybrid P2P-based Grid Resource Discovery System
Peer-to-peer (P2P) computing is recognized as one of most prominent paradigms to achieve scalability in key components of Grid systems. One of these components is resource discovery, whose duty is to provide system-wide up-to-date information about resources, a task inherently limited in scalability. Unlike typical P2P systems, Grid systems manage not only static resources, but also resources w...
متن کاملA Taxonomy of Peer-to-Peer Based Complex Queries: a Grid perspective
Grid superscheduling requires support for efficient and scalable discovery of resources. Resource discovery activities involve searching for the appropriate resource types that match the user’s job requirements. To accomplish this goal, a resource discovery system that supports the desired look-up operation is mandatory. Various kinds of solutions to this problem have been suggested, including ...
